Administration and teachers at CAPE actively engage in action research
projects each year. Here are a few of our research studies.

Mentorship:
2014 - 2017

The goal of this project was twofold; first, to develop teacher capacity to deliver high-quality learning experiences, and second, to develop my skill set to work with individual teachers (recognizing different learning needs, styles, paces, motivating factors, etc.) to build the human capital with the school.

Beginning Reader Skills in Kindergarten:
2013 - 2014

The goal of this project is to enhance and build strong beginning reader skills and a solid foundation in reading among the K children.

Classical Music & Entrepreneurship:
2013 - 2014

The goal of this project is to:

  • increase student engagement in mathematics activities.
  • increase student knowledge of numeracy concepts.
  • increase student achievement in math.

Emotional IQ Development:
2013 - 2014

The goal of this project is to support the students’ acquisition of tools that will further develop their emotional IQ, i.e. their ability to function emotionally within the classroom and to increase student engagement and therefore student performance.

Peer Mentorship:
2013 - 2014

The goal of this project is to increase students’ problem solving ability levels via peer mentorship as well as immersing the students in problem solving activities that foster divergent thinking skills as well as critical thinking skills, while increasing confidence and engagement.

The goal of this project is to develop students’ executive function skills and increase student engagement.

Stability Balls & Engagement:
2012 - 2013

This project aims to increase the students’ ability to focus, to stay on task, to interact respectfully and effectively, and to engage in the learning.

iPads As A Study & Learning Tool:
2012-2013

The goal of this project is to provide students with a tool that allows them to make study notes so that they can then study the curriculum goals covered as well as the other concepts presented in class. The desired outcome is an increase in student achievement as demonstrated through an increase in test scores.

Engagement within Culture Based Second Language:
2012 - 2013

This project aims to increase student engagement within the second language classes via mentorship and, as a result, increase student comprehension and appreciation of the beauty of other cultures and languages.

Classroom Real-Life Applications of the Learning vs Quality Output:
2012 - 2013

The goal of this project is to increase the amount of time on task and the general quality of student work through the engagement of students in a long-term project that embeds relevant curricular and life skills.

Total Integration Project:
2009/2010-2011/2012

This is a school-wide – research study. The goal of this study is to increase student engagement, increase student skill levels to prepare them for high school, good citizenry, the world of work, and for lifelong learning, and to increase active learning and ownership of learning and, ultimately, student achievement.

Student Engagement Study:
2009/2010-2011/2012

The question that this project aims to answer is whether or not CAPE’s Total Integration program increases student engagement and, therefore student achievement. The study group is limited to grade 4 through 9 students.

Culture-Based Second Language Study:
2006/2007-2008/2009

The second language program has been restructured into what can best be described as culture-based second language. It intertwines vocabulary and grammar with cultural elements of the various peoples across the globe that speak the language.

I.S.E.E. ~ Integrated Setting For Enrichment Education:
2006/2007 - 2008/2009

Parental feedback and teacher observations during the implementation of CAPE’s Gifted/Talented Project suggest that younger talented or gifted students might benefit from a similar project. The number of gifted students at CAPE has increased so that almost half of the grades four and five are students which fall into this category. Their program requirements have indicated the need for a homogeneous group in which to learn.
